I spent the day at the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits Statewide Conference and boy was it an eye opening experience. The main takeaway for me was that social media is still very very new to many, and as professionals who do this for a living, we are not serving them well.
Tomorrow, I will be at ConvergeSouth learning about Social Media 3.0, less than 24 hours after conducting a presentation in front of 40 people who don’t even understand Social Media 1.0. I am going to take a step back and start helping some of them understand all of this. If not me, then who?
For anyone interested, the presentation is below.

Angela,
Thanks so much for commenting on my wrap-up post – I meant to find your blog to include it and then spaced it — but I’ve added it in now. Your down-to-earth and humorous approach is DEFINITELY needed and was a great relief to many in the room who were obviously otherwise scared to death by the topic!
All the best,
Kivi

Hi Angela,
I’m glad I found your blog. I am in a network of academic community outreach and education folks. I give talks on incorporating social media into our programs. I don’t think they understand or perhaps there is little interest. I do get them excited… I think. I will keep plugging away. The more information from experienced people like you will help.
I am very passionate and think about perhaps finding an on-line community manager position in the future.
