Do you belong to an online community? Have you built one? Tell me about it.
Do you hang out on a site for moms, fashion designers, social media fanatics, cooking gurus, brides-to-be or technology geeks? How about DIY types, music lovers or people obsessed with the Andy Griffith show? I’d like to know where to find it.
Have you built an awesome community for dancers or teachers, book lovers or clowns-in training?
Whether you frequent the site or manage it yourself, post it in the comments area below.
Just leave the URL of the site in the comments area, along with any other interesting info about it. It’ll pay off. Trust me on this.

Hi Angela,
I’m co-founder of a still-in-closed-beta social network centered around discovering what movies are really the “best of all time”. Visit http://www.flickchart.com to find out more, or you can read our blog at http://blog.flickchart.com

As I am sure you know, Angela my newest online community launched in September of this year. The URL is http://www.femaleforum.com and it is an online community dedicated to women and women’s issues. The site is different from the ‘competition’ in that it is built around simplicity and ease of use. We have great content in the form of unique articles, and a great bunch of members already.

I just discovered a cool site for cat and photography lovers (that’s me!) called http://piccat.com/. You can upload photos, discuss, etc. I love it so far!
I also have a blog my two cats run that is slowing gaining momentum – it mostly features artistic cat photos, and some video. http://www.pippyandchamp.com/

Hi there,
I started http://www.kibbutzvolunteer.com/ back in 1997 before “social” and “media” were used in the same sentence. It’s about travelling on a kibbutz in Israel — I did it for two years, had a blast, so help others. It’s non-profit.
There’s an e-newsletter and two forums; I answer questions personally by e-mail.
Cheers,

I am a very active participant in the fantastic DonationCoder.com software enthusiasts community.
The About page will give you much more detail than I can here: http://www.donationcoder.com/About/index.html
The community is self supported by member donations and has a quite successful microdonation system in place that allows you to donate small amounts to members in appreciation for the work they do and the content they provide.
There is something for everyone, from great software made in-house, tech discussions, member written reviews, a community produced blog, contests, great software discounts, community events, an awesome newsletter, a programming school for self-learners, and even an opportunity to request small custom software made by volunteer coders on the site (for free!).
The site founder wrote an article about the first year, that is quite an interesting read: http://www.donationcoder.com/Articles/One/index.html
It’s a very nice friendly place…unusually friendly. If you use a computer, you’ll love it.

I’ve got a trio of online communities, all for different outdoor games. My first one, for the game Cornhole, has been around a few years and is doing pretty well ( http://www.cornholeplayers.net/forum ). My most recent two were both launched this year, and are both pretty quiet yet. One for Washers – http://www.washerplayers.net and one for a bunch of different Outdoor Games at http://www.outdoorgameplayers.net
If you like games, check them out!
